Tonight’s episode of Modern Family was g-r-e-a-a-a-t…. just not great. It was really more a sentimental episode than just plain funny, but that’s OK, because by now we know that some of the best episode’s involve the big family moments.
It took Thanksgiving to get the whole family back together, and the theme of the night was faith in one another, believing in what your family members are doing, and what they can achieve. Now this can mean anything from Manny’s home-made Thanksgiving centrepiece, to Cam’s childhood story of “chunkin” a pumpkin across a football field, or even Phil’s invention: the “Real Head-Scratcher, TM”.
Again we see more of Hayley and Alex’s relationship with one another: this time they are trying to avert Claire’s attention from a dent in the car that they caused, which is especially tough for Alex who feels compelled to confess. Of course, she confesses literally three seconds before the pumpkin is propelled into the car itself. It’s nice to see the two sisters bonding together before Hayley presumably goes off to college,
A strong divide is also clearly illustrated between the “Pritchetts” (namely Jay, Claire, Mitchell and Alex) and the “dreamers, artists and visionaries” (the rest). An episode highlight is seeing the three adult Pritchetts standing together, cynically commenting on the rest of the family’s attempts to catapult a pumpkin. Of course this is all nicely resolved by episode’s end.
