Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation S4, E3: 15 February 2012

As usual, last night’s episode of TAYG was thoroughly enjoyable viewing – and a themed episode generally adds to the fun of the show, provided they don’t overboard again this year (how many did they have last season…?).

Tonight’s costumes, under the Shakespearean theme, were great fun  (loved Shaun as King Richard III), and the guests were of reasonably high-calibre: H.G. Nelson, Claudia Karvan and Josh Lawson.  Each had a few good one-liners, including the great line from Claudia regarding choosing the Selena: “the girl with the one leg” or “She-lean-a” – ridiculousness at its best, and good enough for an extra point from Shaun.  That’s what I love about this show, it’s a celebration of silliness and just plain family fun.

Regarding tonight’s games, they were mostly pretty dull actually, but at least this is the type of show that can get away with it amidst the craziness. It was a nice change to see Amanda out-do Charlie for once in Gen X’s Chronoloco! game involving the order of film portrayals of Elizabeth I (she was 100% right!) when Charlie didn’t have a clue. The end game was typical silliness: typing a Shakespeare verse perfectly on a typewriter, all the while wearing a monkey suit. But in comparison to other episodes, was dull viewing.

  1. I like the themed episodes. Shaun always looks amazing in costume and it makes for some pretty crazy/funny moments (eg: Shaun as Dorothy from Wizard of Oz) I like how Shaun tries to bring intellect and literature to mainstream television and makes it surreal and enjoyable.
